BAÜP

Automation of Biomarine Centre

BAÜP was part of one of the most ambitious projects of a company involved in the production of superior performing bivalve species.

In order to improve aspects related to bivalve reproduction through innovative tools, the company has embarked on a project for a state-of-the-art Biomarine Centre. This centre, located in Nazaré (Portugal), will allow the company to apply advanced scientific methods.

The proper functioning of such a facility depends on many variables as it will function as a clam seed maternity in seawater tanks. To ensure the smooth operation of the facility, the company in question needs to control the processes locally and remotely, as well as monitor, collect and process data in real time.

SOLUTION

From the beginning, it was clear to us that this centre would need a comprehensive control system, not only for the bivalve cultivation production process, but also for the other systems in the facility.

BAÜP's integral automation solution allows the monitoring and control of various processes, from seawater collection (2 km from the Biomarino Centre) to the air conditioning of the phytoplankton room. Thus, it can interact directly with the field instrumentation and with the energy consuming systems, so that it controls and monitors water parameters at any point of the installation. Furthermore, the architecture of the distributed systems enables remote or local control, making them hybrid systems (cloud and on-premise).

Digital communication with all instruments and actuators is based on innovative digital communication protocols using more advanced features such as optical communication.

RESULTS

Having a comprehensive control system in place ensures a stable quality of the scientific processes carried out in the maternity ward. On the other hand, the continuous collection of data provides an inexhaustible source of knowledge to the project, guaranteeing its continuous improvement.
