Hi Alison, thank you so much for your time. To begin with, how has TULIP grown so much in recent years?

What kind of industries implement TULIP? Would you say there’s a specific sector standing out, or is it quite balanced?

Happy to talk! In my opinion, Tulip has grown so quickly because it’s a team of really motivated people building a product that the market really needs. I work with manufacturers around the world every day, and Tulip offers them something that has never existed before: an opportunity for front line workers to build custom applications for their process improvements. Tulip makes it possible for all manufacturers to benefit from the latest in digital innovation. Tulip’s leadership has done an expert job building a company around a pressing need in the world.

Tulip has customers in nearly every manufacturing industry, including electronics, aerospace and defense, automotive, clothing and apparel, food and beverage, medical device, pharmaceuticals, furniture, and fine and luxury goods, among. Because the platform is so flexible, it can be applied in most manufacturing contexts irrespective of vertical or product line. Recently we’ve been working heavily with biopharma firms, manufacturers looking to better understand their machine data, and contract manufacturers.

How do you think clients react to a Platform as a Service?  How does that penetrate the market?

What would you say are the main differences between the US and European market in regards to digitalization?

Platforms can be difficult to explain because by nature they do many things. It can be a challenge to get a product whose virtue is its possibilities to resonate with people. But the reality is that every manufacturing facility and line is different, so the market needs a product that can easily adapt to different conditions.

With regards to client reactions, here’s my observation. There’s a really great moment in the course of conversation with manufacturers when they start to think about all the ways they could apply the Tulip platform in their operations. They’re no longer thinking of abstract use cases, but what the technology would look like on their shop floor. Those are the most exciting for me because it means that we’re helping people solve their most stubborn manufacturing challenges themselves.

Overall, it seems to me that the European is more mature with regards to digitalization. Manufacturers in Europe have been adopting digital technologies at a faster rate, for longer (the term “Industrie 4.0” was pulled out of a German government initiative).

There are definitely ways manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic can work together. There are a lot of established companies on the continent doing great work to support manufacturers, while much of the newest digital technology and innovation is emerging in the U.S. Imagine what we could do if we leveraged the best of both worlds!

Is it safe to say that TULIP “humanizes” industrial digitalization?

How do you picture the year 2050 in the manufacturing industry?

I think it’s safe and accurate!

Trying to make predictions about a rapidly changing industry so far in advance is one way to expose your own ignorance! I guess I would say that I hope the manufacturing industry of 2050 continues to bring human workers and their production environments into greater harmony.

Mais sobre Tulip

A spin-out do Massachusetts Institute of Technology, descreve na sua própria página web, a forma como a plataforma ajuda a todos aqueles envolvidos nas operações:

Tulip puts those closest to your operations in the driver’s seat. An intuitive drag and drop interface lets them build apps, connect them with your IoT, integrate them with your systems and collect real-time data, without having to write any code.

Estamos orgulhosos de colaborar com a Tulip. A BAÜP é a única integradora de Tulip em Espanha. Se deseja saber mais sobre esta plataforma, pode aceder à sua página web ou ler a nossa série de mini tutoriais “How to do it with Tulip”:
