Overview
Kinetic installation developed for Zara in collaboration with ITFAB, exploring organic motion through large-scale 3D printed elements for retail window displays.
Objective
Design a motion system capable of translating mechanical actuation into smooth, organic movement, enhancing the perception of static 3D printed forms.
System
A custom mechanical and control system was developed, based on 5 servo motors, 5 servo drives and a Beckhoff PLC.The system drives large-format 3D printed figures, enabling controlled multi-axis movement.
Execution
A motion algorithm was designed to generate smooth, organic behavior through reciprocal and non-repetitive movements across axes. The system avoids rigid or deterministic motion, introducing controlled variation to simulate natural dynamics.
Technology
Result
A kinetic system where mechanical motion is perceived as organic behavior, transforming static 3D printed objects into dynamic elements within a retail environment.
